As close to life as I’ve been in while. Newcastle, UK
Dont let the title fool you, I consider the way I live my life to be far better than the majority, of course this is a matter of opinion and few would agree with me, but over the past two weeks my life has changed to be nearer a ‘normal’ life than I have experienced in a while, and im not disliking it, although I dont know how long it will last.
I have aquired a job, working in an Italian lunch bar called Nipote. It is pretty good and I must admit Im pretty good at it, considering Ive never worked in such a place before. Im not quite sure how I got the job even, except I must of stretched the truth a bit on my CV and at the interview. It is not hectic but is a constant flow of work which is what I like. Simple cooking, sandwich making, serving customers and just general kitchen duties. Its kinda fun, and I get free food. I dont think my lunch is supposed to be free but I work hard and I’m pretty sure the managers know but just turn a blind eye. Also, I always seem to ‘make too much’ which keeps the rest of the staff happy.
On Sunday I moved to a new place, only about a 5 minute walk from the one I was in. Ill be living with another 4 hippyish people, not quite as hippy mind you but still very friendly, and the rent is dirt cheap (150 quid a month!) With that and the free food I should be able to save about 150 quid a week, even with my ridiculously low paycheck. Although I say save I really mean ill be able to spend. I will need to save a bit though in order to move on. Im not sure how long Ill stay n Newcastle for yet but I think at least until April, and probably a bit longer.
Oh, so back to the subject matter. So Ive got a job, and permanent residence, a good group of friends (although some of them are a bit physco… next blog topic) and a bike (30 quid from my first paycheck) Other things on the ‘need to buy’ list are a computer (I was remote accessing my mums, which was running my ‘business thing’ but it has blown up, so Ive been down for about 2 weeks. I plan to be up and running again within 2 weeks), a pair of jeans (ive been wearing my one and only pair consintely now) a pair of shoes (just for spares when my current ones get wet) a windstopper (It gets cold here, and the polartec doesnt cut it) gloves (its cold when I ride) and some general survival kit stuff, cause I just cant help myself.
The rest of my job money (as opposed to my business income) will be going towards exploring the north of the UK. First stop, Birmingham this weekend.
