Life Of Travel

Right, Melbourne. Been there a couple of times. Probably my favourite city in Australia, besides Perth obviously, but that wins just because I have friends and family there. So the plan in 09 was for me and my gf at the time to drive across the Nullabour, teaching self defence to kids, and then living in Melbourne, which is what happened.

So got to Melbourne and ended up living in a shared flat with a chinese couple. It was pretty bad. The people where nice, but the girl couldnt really speak english and never left the house. I think she was waiting for a visa or something. We pretty much confined ourselves to out bedroom when we where at home. We lived in a pretty cool area though, just off Burnley st, heaps of cool resturants and pubs and things. I managed to get a pretty good gig in security working for Goldman Sachs, the night shift, which was sick cause i didnt have to do anything. I used to love looking out of the top floor windows and then using the exceutive bathrooms.

During my 12 hours a night of nothing I started building an online martial arts supply store, which took ages and only made about a dozen sales (now a thing of the past). Working nights wasnt too good for the relationship though, cant really remember how it ended but the gf went back home (england) and I moved in with my cousin who lived in Richmond. Another pretty cool area. Sold my van to a couple of hippies, and rode my cousins scooter to work. Apart from being isolated and not really making any good friends it was a pretty good few months. Actually, did some pretty cool stuff in the security industry while I was there. Melbourne Cup, bodyguarded the David Jones model once or twice, bouncing in some dodgy clubs.

So you havent really learnt anything about Melbourne.. said it before and ill say it again.. wikitravel mofos! Definately check out Victoria Markets, Waterfront/Harbourside, Great Ocean Rd, and the little pockets of streets with kick ass food and a cool european coffee culture.
