Weekend In Durham (UK)
An American friend of mine has a blog (http://notinthegoodway.wordpress.com/). I only just dicovered it, and although it has nothing to do with my interests, nor am I a girl, it dawned on me that many of my latest blogs are of an informational nature, which is fine, but I have been neglecting to acutally blog about actual travels. So over the next couple of days/weeks (depending on how I go) I’m going to play catch up on blogging about significant travels and events, starting with this one, on Durham.
I know a fair few people in England, some of them I consider good friends, but none of them live in Newcastle. The closest person I know (apart from the people Ive actually met in Newcastle) lives in Durham, which is about a 20 minute train journey from me.
Durhams quite a quaint little town. It reminds me of a small version of Newcastle. Theres not really much more to say, though I didn’t do much sightseeing, but i think that is probably due to there isnt that much sighseeing to do there. We did go to the Durham market, and to the Church (pictured), had a look at the castle and did see the University (as that is where we stayed). I dont think is much else, except for maybe the botanical gardens.
I only went for the weekend. This was an organised catch up with friends made at camp this year. One girl that studies in Durham, one from london, one from Nottingham and another from NZ/Aust whom was on the back end of here travels before bailing back to aust. Friday night was the drinking night, with a slack dinner and cheesy music at the local club frequented by the university students. Not really my scene but a good time none the less. Didnt get up to much mischief.
Saturday was tamer still, with the girls playing netball (or attempting to), a kick ass roast dinner and then, due to being the only boy vote, a night of x-factor and The Notebook. Just going to note here, out of a sense of pride, that that was the first time I had seen X-Factor and I picked the all girl group to win, and this weekend just gone, they did. Also, I was warned that id cry during the Notebook because it a ‘super sad’ movie, but it’s not. In fact, it is actually quite a happy ending when they die in eachothers arms, having lived a full life (sorry for the spoiler if you havent seen it) Actually not a bad movie for a chick flick.
That night was a pretty bad sleep. I think it was my own fault ’cause earlier in the day I said to open the window for fresh air and then we forgot to close it. Also, I couldnt locate my Survival Blanket or my beanie when I woke up shivering in the night.
Overall on Durham, worth a day trip, wouldnt go back except to catch up with friends.
